Separation from Employment Policy (OH)
When an employee's time at a company must come to an end, whether voluntary or involuntary, it is important to have procedures in place to make it as smooth a transition as possible. A separation from employment policy provides guidelines to ensure fairness and compliance during a separation process and minimize disruptions to the workplace.
This policy lays out the types of termination, such as resignation, retirement, and job abandonment, and the responsibilities of both employers and employees during the separation process. These responsibilities include notice timeframes, resignation letter requirements, exit interviews or transition meetings, returning company property, and final pay obligations. This policy can be customized for applicable state laws and company requirements.
All employees should sign this policy. This policy is not intended for employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Review this policy with your employee handbook and other existing employee policies to ensure there are no inconsistencies. It's designed to be used with the Receipt of Company Property, Exit Interview Questionnaire, and Termination Notice.
